as you have pointed out, any mother could kill her child, sad fact of life for those poor defenceless children. As bad as it is i think the larger the country the higher proportion it seems to be. Not sure how that equates with England being a smaller country than the US, with the statistics.

I think when the Pro-McCanns say a mother couldn’t kill her child, what they really mean, (whether they know it or not,) is that they don’t think an educated, pretty, middle class mother could do it.
I am a 20 year old single mother to a lovely 2 1/2 year old boy. I would never, ever leave him alone while I went out. But had this been me on holiday, or anyone like me, I very much doubt there would have been this huge, sickening display of ‘sympathy’ and donations.
Any mother could kill her child. Some are just better at covering it up.

I am a mother of two gorgeus boys. I would die myself before harming them. I agree with you a licence should be necessary to have a child(although i don’t believe that will ever happen) Too many parents have babies for the wrong reasons, too save a relationship, more money, I don’t know.

I only can tell you why I have my boys, I craved having children from about 13 or 14 yrs old, I knew I wanted to be a mum more than anything in the world, I came from a good loving catholic home, my parents were always there for me and my brothers, So I didn’t have them to fill a void or anything like that.

My first child was an angel, He slept through the night he hardly cried he was great I could not of asked for more.

My second son, however, was completely different, he didn’t sleep didn’t eat cried all the time, It was awful I loved him, I did however suffer what I would call a mild case of post natal depression, I think it was mainly down to sleep deprivation, but I could relate to mothers who shake their babies hurt their babies, it was the scariest time of my life, but I was one of the lucky ones, I have an amazing Mother who was at the end of the phone I would call her at all times of the night and she would come round she saved me is the truth of it I don’t know, I don’t want to know. what would have happened if she hadn’t been there (my husband worked nights just incase you were wondering) I honestly don’t think my son would be here today if hadn’t been for my Mother , God Bless my Mother.

I think that if these parents who do this to there children had support like I had maybe it wouldn’t happen, I’m not saying it would stop completely some peopl are just born evil. But maybe just maybe it might help them.

But I know I could never hurt my babies they’re both good strong happy healthy lads and I thank God every day for them, this is my path in life.

I don’t get the ‘how could a mum murder her child’ argument – it happens so often. Also abuse in the home is put down to fathers but is more often mothers. Throw in a bit of munchausen’s by proxy and you’re lucky to get past pre-school! People get so angry at the accusation because it ruins their cosy view of the world – if you remember the amazing strength of feeling with James Bulger aimed at the 10 year old children who killed him, people found it so abhorent that a child could do that, said they must be evil. People don’t deal well with having their view of the world challenged.

There have been many horrible stories of mothers killing their children, some extremely sadistically. It has been going on for years and is still 70% a factor in the killing of young children. Of course the McCanns would come under suspicion, on statistical grounds if nothing else. For all those who keep saying ‘I can’t believe a mother coule kill her child’ I suggest they start reading the papers. It happens all the time.
I am not saying Mrs McCann is guilty but I am saying that it has to be a possibility.
