Is it allowed to post a knife to Australia?
I want to send my sister a pocket knife for Xmas. I am in the UK and she is in Australia. Are there any postal regulations which will cause a problem sending a knife from the UK to Australia?

How about ordering one online from Australia and getting it delivered to her? That way it never needs to cross borders.

here in Australia
they’re have been some new laws pasted that people in Victoria must have a dangerous weapons license on some knifes.
i was looking to buy a knife of eBay until i found out about these laws.
these laws only accour for some states but to ship one into australia it would be best to check with australian customs.

thanks.

Knives are a restricted import into Australia, some are allowed, some are not. Knives which are NOT permitted for import are:

Daggers, flick knives, butterfly knives, trench knives, ballistic knives, concealed knives/blades, throwing knives/blades/axes, star knives, push knives, sheath knives, non-metallic knives.

So if it is a small pocket knife you should be right mate, check my second source for a detailed description of restricted imports for knives.

my dad got sent a really awesome knife from the us, and we live in Australia. its really nice, but illegal to carry around. I think that it would be ok to send her a knife, just so long as she understands that it may be illegal to carry around without a license.

Not permitted by Royal Mail

Col is wrong. Royal Mail will accept a closed pocket knife in it’s box and then in a padded envelope. The only problem I can see is if the Australian authorities intercept it. As I don’t know the age restrictions on knife ownership over there.
