Knives are a restricted import into Australia, some are allowed, some are not. Knives which are NOT permitted for import are:
Daggers, flick knives, butterfly knives, trench knives, ballistic knives, concealed knives/blades, throwing knives/blades/axes, star knives, push knives, sheath knives, non-metallic knives.
So if it is a small pocket knife you should be right mate, check my second source for a detailed description of restricted imports for knives.

my dad got sent a really awesome knife from the us, and we live in Australia. its really nice, but illegal to carry around. I think that it would be ok to send her a knife, just so long as she understands that it may be illegal to carry around without a license.

Col is wrong. Royal Mail will accept a closed pocket knife in it’s box and then in a padded envelope. The only problem I can see is if the Australian authorities intercept it. As I don’t know the age restrictions on knife ownership over there.

Is it allowed to post a knife to Australia?
I want to send my sister a pocket knife for Xmas. I am in the UK and she is in Australia. Are there any postal regulations which will cause a problem sending a knife from the UK to Australia?
