The Best Knife Blog
Even though I LOVE my dad, I am always at a loss for what to get him for his birthday/Father’s Day.
I always go with the classic: "make a card and make breakfast in bed" thing. It’s highly appreciated by him because we rarely have breakfast in our house that isn’t cereal. He always likes the cards because they’re personalized and funny.
If you want something camping-wise, here are some ideas:
-sleeping bag
-flashlight/headlamp thing
-pocket knife
-one of those purification water bottle things
(I don’t know to what extent you rough it when you camp…)
For a BBQ:
-grill seasonings
-marinade recipe
-grilling tools like tongs/scraper/spatula
OK, I think the idea bank is empty. :]
I hope this helped!

Your father sounds like a great guy, and you sound like a wonderful daughter. My opinion is that you just spending time with him is the greatest present you could give him. If you want something more material:
A Swiss Army Knife ( all guys love these )
A multi-tool (almost as cool as the swiss army knife)
A nice, comfortable day-pack.
A GPS device.
A Thermarest air matress.
Binoculars.
A nice fishing pole
An iPod ( I treasure mine!)
A hammock
A handwritten book telling him how special he is in your life. That would make my day
hope that helps.

why do people always thinks dads want male toys like swiss army knifes?!
i think my dad would be very disappointed if i bot him a hammer or something for a gift!!
I’d go for something like a book or a DVD or a series if he likes one, loads of dads i know are addicted to 24 and a show called The Wire, but I’m not sure if thats a British show?
If your dad likes sports, why not get him a ticket to a game he’d like to go to? Or a concert of a band or artist he likes? You could get him to go with your mum or you if you share the same interests?
I always think its better to get a gift that has memories like a concert or holiday etc rather than a piece of multipurpous DIY equipment..

I would suggest you to gift him something that is really cute and precious, something like a beautiful photo book which has pictures of best moments of his life. Visit http://www.smilebooks.com/custom-photo-books.php?utm_source=yahooanswers&utm_medium=pv&utm_campaign=customphotobooks and see if it interests you. If it does, they have a special offer of 25% discount on all photo books, which could help you opt for a BIG photo book. Use “PV25” coupon code for this discount.

Add to any gift a list of the reasons why you appreciate him. Perhaps have it inscribed on a wall plague.
Please don’t get a joke card. In my 20+ years of working with fathers, it has been rare that a joke card that makes fun of his abilities is really appreciated.
I wrote this to "Dear Abby" for Father’s Day, March 19, 2005.
APPRECIATION FOR JOB WELL DONE IS WHAT FATHERS WANT TO HEAR
DEAR ABBY: Today is Father’s Day, so why don’t we try to do more for dear old Dad than give him the usual greeting card that promotes the idea that all dads are imbeciles, followed by a collect call to see what he thought of the card. (Father’s Day is the day when the most collect calls are made.)
We should treat our fathers the way we treat our mothers on Mother’s Day and show them we appreciate them for being there. Yes, you probably tell your father all the time that you love him, but the minds of men work differently. Anyone can say "I love you," but as men, knowing that we are appreciated for a job well done is what really gets us teary-eyed.
Something else you can do — especially you sons out there (but daughters can do it, too) — is to make sure Dad has been to the doctor for a checkup, including depression screening. This can go a long way toward making sure he’s here on Father’s Day next year.
I wasn’t raised by my father, but by a stepfather. Although we did not see eye-to-eye on many things, I would not be the person I am today if it were not for him. This man, who spent years climbing on top of heavy construction equipment to prepare the ground for many of the homes, businesses, roads and highways of Southern California, now finds it difficult to get into a car. Although none of the houses or roads have his name on them, they are all testaments to his life and the lives of men like him.
So today, let’s do something extra for Dad, without him pulling out his wallet to pay for it. — George McCasland, Overland Park, Kansas

Remember, there’s a lot of us fathers sitting in nursing homes whose children live too far away to visit. Contact an activities director about volunteering Sunday morning. Read a list out loud about why you appreciated your father.

As I posted elsewhere, I’m a father and the thing I like most is when everybody’s in a good mood. So get everyone to screw on a smile and laugh all day. That’ll do the trick. But if you have to get him something, offer to get his ear pierced. Even if he declines, he won’t forget that
